Review of the Toshiba Regza 46XV635 LCD Television

The 46XV635DB is the largest set in Toshiba's Regza XV line. Despite its low price tag, it packs in a lot of useful features.

This LCD television reduces flicker by displaying it at 100 frames per second (100 Hz), twice as many frames as a normal broadcast. Resolution Plus increases edge detail of standard definition broadcasts to make it look more like HDTV. Backlighting effect is automatically adjusted with a light sensor, ensuring it matches the brightness inside the room as well as what's being displayed on-screen.

The Regza is a good choice even if you can't see the 46 "screen, as it's one of the few TVs with Audio Description (AD) support. This acts like closed-captioning for the hearing impaired, with a separate audio track describing what's going on on screen.

Aswith most LCD TV 's, there isn't much room for speakers, but the Regza gets some help with Dolby Audio. Bass Boost helps with lower tones, while voice enhancement mode makes dialog stand out against music and sound effects. Best of all, Dolby Volume adjusts audio to be a continuous volume, eliminating the overt loudness of commercials.

Regza Link is supported through the television's four HDMI ports, letting compatible devices immediately use the if's remote without additional programming. Unlike most new LCD TVs, the Regza includes many other connectors including SCART, component video, VGA, and S-Video. Video and pictures from computer sources can be viewed using the TV's SD memory card slot. Wall mounting will block most of the connectors, as they're on the back of the unit. Those using the TV's stand will like its wide, swiveling base.

Toshiba has also included some green tech to cut the running costs of the Regza. The greatest draw of electricity in an LCD TV is the backlight. Toshiba addresses this with the EcoPanel, which kao3 lv4 the amount of light needed to display an image, decreasing electricity usage without resorting to pricey LEDs. The xv635 can also be fully powered down, so it doesn't use any electricity when turned off. These two technologies work together to reduce electricity usage to 30% over standard LCD television.
